August 23, 2006: Members of the Submarine Base Fire Department (B-shift) conducted victim removal drills at Fire Department Headquarters. Evolutions consisted of unconscious civilian, conscious civilian and unconscious firefighter using a high-anchor pulley system and the Gemtor harness.

On Monday, August 21, 2006, members from the Subase FD conducted a conventional forcible entry drill at an acquired building on the base. While Forcible Entry scenarios were happening other members were learning and practicing the Denver Drill.
All hands operated for approx. 1 1/2 hours.

August 22, 2006: The Poquonnock Bridge and Center Groton FD's responded to 1130 North Road, Starr-Lite caterers, for a catering truck fire with impingement onto its propane tanks. The quick response and knockdown of fire allowed for this not to be a bigger tragedy than it could of been.

August 17, 2006: The Poquonnock Bridge and Subase FD responded to the former Golden Gate restraunt on Route-12 for a reported car into the building. Subase C-12 (covering for C-25) was first on scene and reported one car into the building with minor structual damage and moderate front end damage of the motor vehicle. No injuries were reported on the scene, only a minor fluid spill. Members of PBFD applied speedi-dri while members from SBFD ensured there was no fire conditions in the engine compartment.

August 9, 2006: Members of the Old Mystic, Mystic and Wequetequock fire departments participated in live burn evolutions at the former Ashbys restraunt located on Rt. 27 in Old Mystic. After several interior training evolutions the building was let to burn through and eventually to the ground. Many spectators were on hand to watch these evolutions, maybe getting a better idea as to what the fire service is all about.

July 29, 2006: New London Fire Department responded to 78-88 State street for a reported structure fire in the old Cronin Building. Upon arrival a smoke condition was observed from the street. Battalion One assumed command and first due companies reported a fire on the second floor. Battalion One requested an additional chief due to the possible complexity of this fire and a second alarm was also transmitted. Initial handlines were stretched to aggressivly fight this fire and in only a matter of minutes was the fire knocked down. An additional tower ladder was also requested and W-55 from the Cohanzie Fire Department responded to the scene. After extensive overhaul to ensure there was no extension the under control was given by the battalion.
